Hazel O’Shields Babb, 86, former resident of Buffalo, SC passed away peacefully and entered into eternal rest November 16, 2014 at Magnolia Manor of Greenwood, SC. Mrs. Babb was the widow of Curtis W. “Bill” Babb.

She was born, May 30, 1928 in Union County to the late John Webster and Helen Smith O’Shields and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a graduate of West Springs High School and retired from Life of Georgia Insurance Co. as a sales agent. Mrs. Babb was a faithful member of Putman Baptist Church and church choir, which she dearly loved. She was also a member of the Annie Kingsmore Sunday School Class. Mrs. Babb, always full of life, was an avid gardener and loved to cook and sew.

Surviving is a daughter, Janis Sanders (Jimmy) of Greenwood. She was affectionately called “Nonnie” by her two grandsons, Jay Sanders (Alayna) of Greenwood and Kent Babb (Whitney) of Washington, DC.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Babb, a sister, Matrel Stribling and three brothers, Horace, Emmett, and Ryan O’Shields. Mrs. Babb is also survived by her brother-in-law, Paul Babb (Eleanor) of Bishopville, and a special niece, Connie Kuykendall (Terry) of Columbus, NC. She also leaves behind her faithful canine companion, Loafer.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Rick Henderson and Rev. Donald Tillman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Russell Stribling, Jay Sanders, Kent Babb, Harold Gregory, Dan McInnis, and Steven Pettit.

The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, members of the Annie Kingsmore Sunday School Class, Elaine and Harold Gregory, Joan and Everette Smith, Elenor and Harold Youngblood, Elliott and Billy Kelly, Lena Ford and Dennis and Johnnie Sherbert.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:45 until 2:45 PM at the church prior to the services.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses of Magnolia Manor and Hospice Care of the Piedmont for their care and concern of Mrs. Babb.
