Benito Benavidez, age 87, passed away on January 13, 2002. Benito was a lifelong resident of Casa Colorada, New Mexico and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Benito was a World War II veteran who proudly served his country overseas for five years, mostly in India. Benito loved to ride horses, labor in his garden and play with his dogs. Benito was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Prescilla Gurule Benavidez in 1992 and his son-in-law, Fermin Chavez in 2001. Benito is survived by his children, Rosemary Chavez, Boleslo Benavidez, Rudy Benavidez and his wife, Lorraine, Mercy Benavidez, Adela Luna and her husband, Fidel, Joanne Gutierrez and her husband, Michael, Ted Benavidez and his wife, Mary and Dennis Benavidez, 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one brother, Arturo Benavidez and his wife, Corrina of Barstow, CA. Benito is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
A Viewing will be held on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Casa Colorada with Interment in Casa Colorada Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Benavidez, Richard Gutierrez, Gerald Flores, Andrew Chavez, Ruben Flores and Joe Tarin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Martin Kirtley, Jessica Benavidez and Dianne Montoya.
