BEVERLY J. AKKER, 83, of Four Seasons Living Center, Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Center.

Beverly was born September 4, 1927 in Sterling, IL, to Ralph A. and Grace E. (Gouker) Carley. She was educated in the Morrison grade schools and graduated from Morrison High School in 1945. Beverly married Louis A. Akker on June 27, 1948 in Morrison, IL. She was employed by the Carnation Company in Morrison, sold tickets at the Capitol Theatre and later worked as a cook for the Chadwick School, where she greeted every student with a smile. She also helped her husband farm in Chadwick until their retirement. Beverly was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, where she participated in the choir, was involved in various Bible Study Groups, and helped cook in the church kitchen for many events. Bev and Louis also taught Christian Endeavor. Bev was a member of the Chadwick Woman's Club. She loved to bake and during the holidays, she would make her "famous" cinnamon rolls for family, friends, and neighbors. She also loved to grow flowers and vegetables. She was a cat lover and would often nurse back to health any of the farm animals. She also was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years.

Bev will be lovingly remembered by her husband of almost 63 years, Louis; one daughter, Pamela (David) Sikma of Momence, IL; two sons, Steven (Cathy) Akker of Chadwick, IL and Philip (Debbie) Akker of Morrison, IL; four grandsons, Ben (Sarah) Sikma, Jon Sikma, Jason Sikma, and Joel Sikma; one granddaughter, Cara Akker; two step grandchildren, Eric Birely and Aimee Murphy; one great grandchild; and five step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs. Shirley Horkan; and one brother in infancy.
