Leonard Atkinson funeral Thursday
Funeral services for Leonard Atkinson 70, Bakersfield, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Rose Chapel, Robertsons-Drago Funeral Home. West Plains, with the Rev. Nyman Matthews officiating.
Mr. Atkinson died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday in West Plains Memorial Hospital. De was born April 6 1911, in Bakersfield, the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Clara Christine Isom Atkinson.
He received his education in the Bakersfield School System and attended Bakersfield High School. On Sept. 16 1950, he was married at Mtn. Home Ark., to Kitty Roberts. He had served on the Bakersfield School Board and had been a member and officer of the Bakersfield City Council.
Mr. Atkinson was a veteran of the World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in the United States Army Infantry during the Rhineland campaign. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 374, Bakersfield, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans, West plains.
Burial will be in Baptist Hill Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
