Carol J. Akins, 85, King City, MO departed this life on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph, MO. Carol was born August 22, 1930 in Amity, MO the daughter of Raymond and Hannah (Riepe) White. They preceded her in death.

On May 1, 1949 she married James M. Akins in Whitesville, MO. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1991.

Carol attended St. Joseph Teacher’s College and later worked as a bookkeeper. She was a faithful mother and loving grandmother who was simply referred to as “Granny.” She was a member of the Huffman United Methodist Church and Martha Circle of Huffman United Methodist Church in St. Joseph, MO. She volunteered at Mosaic Life Care and as a tutor for the St. Joseph School District.

In addition to her husband and parents, Carol is preceded in death by infant daughter, Renita Gail; brother, Milford White; and special friend, Don Smith.

Survivors include daughters, Sue (James) Washburn, King City, MO, Beverly (Jack) Workman, St. Joseph, MO, Teresa (Jove) Stickel, Higginsville, MO, Elaine (Jerry) Snuffer, King City, MO; sons, Dennis (Karen) Akins, Holt, MO, Terry (Rock) Akins, Bethany, MO; brother, Roger (Anita) White, Baldwin City, KS, sister, Alice (Don) Lancey, Chillicothe, MO; 18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
