Mrs. Abate died early Saturday morning in a Florence hospital after an illness. Born in Joliet, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Harold and Jewel Drelling Fitzsimmons. She was owner and operator of Jewel's Deluxe Restaurant and Catering. She was a member of the First Church of God and sang in the church choir.
Surviving are her husband, Joe Abate of Darlington, sons, Steven Gehrke of Florence, Doug (Lynn) Gehrke of Darlington, Joe (Charlene) Abate of Tenn.; don (Lora) Abate of Virginia; eight grandchildren.
