Columbia - Service for Washington McAlpin Albergotti, Jr., 85, will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Carolina Children's Home. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late W.M. Albergotti and Clara Vincent Albergotti. He attended the Columbia Public Schools and as a senior in high school played in the first North Carolina-South Carolina All Star Shrine Bowl football game. After graduation from Clemson University in Electrical Engineering, he entered the Navy as an Ensign. He was stationed at a number of Navy Yards on the East and West Coasts. During the latter part of the war, he served as a first lieutenant aboard LST 942, making invasions on the Philippine Islands and Borneo. He was honorably discharged as a lieutenant. Mr. Albergotti worked at Gibbes Machinery Company from March 1946 until June 1986. While working at Gibbes, he served as president of Century Company and also president of Universal Business Machines, Inc. Mr. Albergotti was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. He was a former member of Tarantella Club, charter member of Columbia Sertoma Club and member of White Pond, Inc. He served as greens committee chairman and later president of Forest Lake Club. He served as president of White Pond, Inc. and was Forest Lake Senior Golf Champion in 1980. Surviving are daughter, Dianne Albergotti of Columbia; stepdaughters, Diane Hall Barber and her husband, David, of Atlanta, Ga. and Helen Hall Kapp and her husband, Tom, of Edisto Island; six stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Annabelle Crabill Albergotti; his second wife, Cornelia Greer Walker Hall Albergotti; and his sister, Clara Albergotti. The State, Columbia, SC, 18 Oct 2005
