COLUMBIA-A graveside service for John William Aiken, 92, will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at graveside following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Aiken died Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Born on January 1, 1920, in Creedmoor, N.C., he was a son of the late Arthur Townly and Mae Pendleton Aiken. Mr. Aiken was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed hunting and farming. He was an U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII. John retired from the S.C. National Guard at McEntire Air National Guard Base and was the owner of Double-A Farms, a local blueberry farm. He was a long-time member of Suber Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Dr. Pam (Steve) Farr of Gainesville, Ga., Patti (Don) Yandle of Greenville; son, Kenny Aiken of Columbia; grandchildren, Scott and Brent Yandle of Greenville, Jon Farr of Atlanta and sister, Mildred White of Florida.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, Ernelle Stanfield Aiken, and his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Suber Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church, 3900 Live Oak Street, Columbia SC 29205.
