Friends are invited to call between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23 at Greenlawn Funeral Home.

Born in Columbia, James was the son of the late Leonard Leroy Abbott and Essie Dunn. He had recently celebrated his 86th birthday on October 12. He was first married to the late June Harling Abbott for forty years. He was later married Pat Fredette Abbott.

Mr. Abbott had a love for his church and his country. He was a proud member of the U.S. Aircorps and served our country during World War II. When not on active duty, James made his home in the Columbia area and in Eastover, where he lived for over 50 years. He attended Eason Memorial Baptist Church for over 49 years. Active in membership, James served on the board of trustees, as a deacon, and was the director of Sunday School.

In addition to his life of service, he also enjoyed farming and hunting. James was an avid farmer, raising Black Angus cattle on his farm. He was active with the Eastover Hunt Club. He was also a former Mason.

James leaves to cherish his memory his two children, Rita Abbott Rye, and Paul L. Abbott (JC); his son-in-law, Donnie Redfern; two stepchildren, Craig Fredette (Stephanie), and Pam Burch (Phillip); twelve grandchildren, Nicole Harkins, Michelle Walker (Rick), Travis Rish (Aimee), Bonnie Massengale, Karen Abbott, Keith Abbott, Chris Abbott (Bonnie), Lisa Williams (Joe), Daniel Redfern, Julie Blackwell, Landon Rish, and Deanna Rudnick (Kelly); five step-grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Abbott was predeceased by his first wife of 40 years, June Harling Abbott; his beloved daughters, Linda June Abbott and Susan Abbott Redfern; a sister, Pauline Watson; and his brother, Charles L. Abbott.

The family requests that those who wish make memorials to Eason Memorial Baptist Church, 201 Vanboklen St, Eastover, SC 29044.

Greenlawn Funeral Home is honored to be assisting Mr. Abbott's family with his final arrangements.
