Mrs. Alvenia Green "Apple" Parker 73, of St. Helena Island and wife of Herman "Boo" Parker, died Monday, May 16, 2011 at her residence.

Services for Mrs. Parker are being planned for Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 12 Noon at Bethesda Christian Fellowship, St. Helena Island. Burial to follow in Frogmore Cemetery. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. Revelations 22:12

Sister Alvenia "Apple" Green Parker was born on March 19, 1938 to the late Margaret G. Green. She was reared in the Lands End Community by her grandparents Thomas and Rebecca Green.

At an early age, "Apple" as she was affectionately called, accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptize at the Adam Street Baptist Church and then later moved her membership to the Faith Memorial Baptist Church of St. Helena Island, South Carolina.

In June of 1953 she married her schoolmate, Herman Parker, Sr. From this union they were blessed with five beautiful children. She was preceded in death by two children, Barbara and Herman Parker, Jr.; and four siblings, Julius Green, Earnest Bailey, Arthuree Parker and Harold Lee Williams.

"Apple" attended Penn Normal Industrial School then later transferred to St. Helena High School. Upon pursuing her education she received her GED, Cosmetologist License, CNA and Home Health Care Certificates. She received numerous awards, including The South Carolina Child of the Year and Guardian Ad Litem. She also served as Notary in her community. She was employed by the Beaufort County School District as a cafeteria worker; she was also an entrepreneur of "Gardenia House of Beauty" on St. Helena Island, SC. She dedicated many volunteer services to the St. Helena Elementary School.

She leaves her fondest memories with her husband Herman, Sr. of 58 years, her three children, Joan (Ronald) Robbins, of New Bern, NC; Edward (Lori) Parker; and Catherine (Troy) James of St. Helena Island, SC; twenty-four brothers and sisters: Thomas (Odessa) Major, Patricia Gumbs, Julie Canfall, Mary (Michael) Holmes, Patricia (Henry) Jones, Jonathan Cuthbert all of St. Helena Island, SC; Ruby Warren, Rose, Linda, Edward (Rosa) Bennett, Carolyn Bennett all of Port Royal, SC; Lillian C. Davis of New Hempstead, NY; Evelyn (Winford) Ogden of Atlanta, GA; Florence (Albert) White of Sun City, SC; Walter (Carrie) Gardner, Lancaster, PA; Rebecca Davis of Bronx, NY; Cyrus (Edna) Bennett, Jr. and Charles Larry (Gloria) Bennett of Irmo, SC; William (Paulette) Bennett of Kingsland, GA; Clarence (Corene) Bennett of Birmingham, AL; Donald (Beverly) Bennett of Richmond, VA. Benjamin and Joseph Miller of Hilton Head Island, SC; and Sammy Grant of Pensacola, Florida; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one adopted daughter, Coretta Housley; sisters-in-law, Doris Holmes, Victoria Bailey, Evelena Green, Vivian Byas and Louise Elliby; bothers-in-law, Abraham Cohen, Christopher (Linda) Holmes, Herman Cohen and Thomas Holmes; special friends, Thelma Wilson(maid of honor), Irene Daise, Sarah Gadsen, Essie Mae Holmes, Hester Smalls, Ruthie Johnson and Bertha Ladson all of St. Helen Island, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
