Elizabeth Denise Atkinson, affectionately known as "NeeCee,",56, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Levine Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C.

Daughter of Christine Atkinson Johnson and the late Preston Scott Atkinson, she was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and grew up in St. Albans, Queens.

She attended Andrew Jackson High School and continued her studies at York College. She was employed for approximately 20 years by the East Side House Settlement Head Start/Daycare Center, where she worked her way up from a head-cook preparing special culinary dishes for both children and staff to a family case worker until her early retirement.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by three children, three grandchildren, two sisters and a brother,

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church, 605 Johnston Drive, Pineville, N.C., with the Rev. Vester Sims officiating. Interment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens in Blacksburg.
