Lela Jean Ummerteskee was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on September 27, 1953, to Maxine and Clyde Maynard. She passed away on May 2, 2012, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 58.
Lela grew up in Marble City. After completing high school, she attended the University of Arkansas.
She enjoyed playing and visiting with her grandchildren, vacationing with her family, and watching reality tv shows. Her favorites were the The Real Housewives series and Jersey Shore.
She and Perry Ummerteskee were reunited a second time in marriage on July 3, 2009.
Lela had worked for The Cherokee Nation for 33 years. She started in the Registration Department, where she later became the Tribal Registrar.
Lela is survived by her husband, Perry of the home; four daughters, Tomasine Moore and children Kayla and Katie, of Tahlequah, OK; Melissa Lowe, husband, Elmer, and children, Alijah and Aidyn Of Taft, OK; Debra and Arron Parris, and children Bethany and Sally Wilder, and Lucy May Majors, of Tahlequah, OK; Lucy Wilder and husband Jason Sr. and children Jason Jr., and Deona, of Tahlequah, OK; and one son, Michael Bunch and wife Dana, and their son Hunter, also of Tahlequah, OK.
