On April 18, 1948, Bobbie Ann married the love of her life, Elmo B. Blackmon, at her parents’ house in Winnsboro. They were married for 62 years. Winnsboro was their home until 2009, when they moved to Pineville. Bobbie Ann was a lifelong member of Winnsboro’s First Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ as her personal Savior as a child. As an active church member, she worked in WMU, taught Sunday School and VBS, cooked for mission trips, and fed visiting preachers and missionaries. She loved the Lord and her church. Throughout Bobbie’s life, her dearest friends were her fellow church members.
In 1957, Elmo and Bobbie opened Blackmon’s Department Store in Winnsboro, where they served Franklin Parish for 43 years. She was Elmo’s advisor, his encourager, and his partner in the store. Bobbie enjoyed working in DAR, having served the local Oakley Chapter as Regent. She enjoyed working on projects to beautify Winnsboro.
Bobbie Ann loved her family, her neighbors, and her friends. In the later years, she appreciated the cards and phone calls from those neighbors and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sisters, Dorothy Williamson and Mary Crowley.
She is survived, by her daughter Sandra B. Bennett of Irving, TX, and her son Jerry B. Blackmon and his wife Kathy of Pineville. Other survivors include her three grandchildren: Kim Bennett Green and husband Gardner of Coppell, TX, Jay Blackmon and wife Lacy of Pineville, and Jeff Blackmon and wife Haley of Pineville. Eight great-grandchildren brought great joy to Bobbie Ann’s life. They are Abby Green, Davis Green, Mallory Blackmon, Grace Blackmon, Bode Blackmon, Molly Blackmon, Brian Blackmon, and Emily Blackmon. Bobbie is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Mona Meredith, six nieces, and one nephew.
Services will be held at 3 pm Saturday, February 14, 2015 in First Baptist Church Winnsboro with , Dr. Max Lee and Rev. Craig Beeman officiating. Interment will follow in Myrtle Memorial Cemetery , Winnsboro. Under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
