Funeral services for Charles Ernest Barrett Jr., age 87, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 16, 2014, in the Chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA.
Internment at the Downsville Community Cemetery. Brother Norman Bryant of the Rowland Road Baptist Church will be officiating.
Charles was born January 24, 1927, in Fields, LA, and passed peacefully in his sleep on February 4, 2014, at his home in Monroe, LA.
Charles as a retired lumber inspector with Reed and Son Lumber Company in Monroe, and had previously worked at many of the mills in the area, including Roy O. Martin Lumber Company in Alexandria, LA.
He had created a backyard oasis that he and his wife enjoyed with their family, friends, and animals. Charles was caretaker of various squirrels, birds, and his two loyal canine companions Spot and Sam, who all will miss him very much.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Frances, their daughter Angela, and his parents Charles and Maude.
He is survived by his son Charles and wife Carolyn; son Tom; grand-daughter Anastasia Adams; friends Betty Lucas, Janis Creel and her husband Jerald, and Asger Hansen; Frances' brothers Cornie and his wife Vernie, and John and his wife Marti; Frances' sisters Sylvia Bowman and her husband Buddy, and Annette Giordano and her husband Gerald.
