Magdalena was born to Candelario and Magdalena (Garza) Contreras.

Married Jose Garza on October 24, 1924 in Calvert, Texas.

Magdalena suffered a heart attack on her way home from Dallas to Rockdale.

Survived by sons, Juan Contreras Salinas (Veteran, U.S. Army), and Benito Contreras Garza; daughters, Beatriz Garza Dimas, Teresa Garza Marceleno, Margaret Garza, Florence Garza Nieto and Leona Garza Castillo.

Preceded in death by son, PFC Francisco "Frank" Garza a member of the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Company D, 2nd Battalion, Red Devils - "Diablo". Francisco died on D-Day, Jun. 6, 1944, in France.

Her son, U.S. Army Private First Class Nicolas Garza died of malnutrition and dysentery as a Prisoner-of-War (POW) during the Korean War. Nicolas is still classified as Missing-in-Action (MIA).

Prior to her marriage to Jose Garza, Magdalena was married to Erasmo Salinas with whom she conceived four children. Two of the children (boy and girl) were kiddnaped by their father and believed taken to Mexico. They were never heard from or seen. Her daughter, Gertrudis Salinas, died from SIDS.
