Another of the aged and highly esteemed ladies who had become familiarly
known to a large circle in this
community has passed away. Mrs.
Harriet Clark, widow of the late William
C. Clark, died after along illness
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.
A. Thompson, at Copenhagen, December
8th, at the age of 86 years. Mrs.
Clark's maiden name was Harriet
Loomis. She was a daughter of Otis
and Rachel Loomis, and was born in
Champion. She was the oldest member
of the Congregational church in
Deer River. Mrs. Clark was always
greatly devoted to her family and home
surroundings and had gained the admiration
of all who mingled in her society
for her many endearing qualities.
She was united in marriage to
Mr. Clark, July 1, 1846. and resided
on their farm on the East road south
of Deer River, for many years, until
the death of her husband, which occurred
eighteen years ago. Since that
time she has lived with her daughter
at Copenhagen. Mrs. Clark is survived
by three sons and one daughter,
Frank M., a druggist of Hannibal,
Mo.; Eugene S., of Kansas City, Mo.,
who is bookkeeper for the Hereford
Breeders Association; C. B. Clark, of
Deer River, and Mra. Martha R., wife
of C. A. Thompson, of Copenhagen;
also two sisters, Mrs Chester Carter,
of Hannibal, Mo., and Mrs. J. W.
Wright, of Los Angeles, Cal. : one
brother. Sylvester Loomis, of Champion.
Her funeral was held at Copenhagen,
Saturday, Rev. J. H. Keeling,
pastor of the Congregational church,
officiating. Interment was made in the
family plot by the aide of her deceased
husband in Swinburn cemetery at Deer
Denmark (Lewis County)
