The death of a six year old Olney girl, victim of meningitis, shocked and saddened the Olney community.
Bridget Ann Kunkel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melton Kunkel, 407 S. Ave. H died despite frantic efforts to save her life.
She attended her first grade class at Oney grade School and became ill just before school let out for the day. Her parents took her to the hospital and she died nine hours later.
Doctors at the hospital took turns giving her artificial respiration while Olney firemen and highway patrolmen rushed to Wichita Falls to get an iron lung for her.
She was baptized at the age of two weeks at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Her sponsors of the church were her grandparents - Mr. and Mrs. K.P. Kunkel, Joyce Kunkel and Anton Kunkel.
She was a member of the Primary A department of the St.Luke Sunday School and a beginning student in Miss Delta Fern Wisdom's school of ballet dancing.
Survived by her parents; grandparents; one brother - Melton, Jr.
Services were held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
