Enlisted on 5/24/1861 at Manassas Junction, VA as a Private, he mustered into "F" Co. VA 17th Infantry.
Absent, sick at home 7/15/1861; Returned 10/15/1861.
Furloughed, Sick, 2/15/1862; Returned 2/15/1863.
Wounded in left thigh and right hip, 5/16/1864 Drewry's Bluff, VA.
On rolls 12/15/1864.
POW 4/1/1865 Five Forks, VA.; Confined 4/4/1865 Hart's Island, NY Harbor; Oath of Allegiance & Released 6/20/1865 Hart's Island, NY Harbor.

The 17th Infantry Regiment was organized at Manassas Junction, Virginia, in June, 1861, using the 6th Battalion Virginia Infantry as its nucleus. Men of this unit were recruited in the counties of Warren, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, and Fauquier.
