"Arthur Abenanty, 81, of Secret Caverns Road, Howes Cave, died Saturday at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, after a long illness. Born in Syracuse, Mr. Abenanty lived in Laurens before moving to Howes Cave in 1985. He served in the Navy during World War II and later owned and managed Webb's Shoe Store in Oneonta before retiring in 1980. Mr. Abenanty was a member and former secretary of Lodge 465 of the Loyal Order of Moose. He also was a member of Lodge 1312 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and Lauarens American Legion post. Surviving are his wife, the former Stella Laubmeier, four daughters, Sandra Taylor and Carole O'Dell, both of Syracuse, Linda Kolnick of Howes Cave and Nancy Barker of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Yolanda Rimaldo of Syracuse; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services were Sunday at Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, Cobleskill. Burial was in Hillington Cemetery, Morris ..."
