Services for Joyce Cox Abraham will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Christ Episcopal Church in Tyler with the Rev. Ted Welty officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. She died Wednesday evening, Feb. 4, 2009, at home with her family, surrounded by love.
Joyce was born Jan. 24, 1928, to Thomas Wiley Cox and Carrol Mosby Cox. She graduated from Tyler High in 1944. Joyce attended Randolph Macon College and The University of Texas, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
A devoted lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church, Joyce was passionate in her work with the Altar Guild. She was a charter member of both the Tyler Service League, which later became the Junior League of Tyler, and the Tyler Junior Garden Club. Joyce had a lifetime love of gardening, flowers and collecting cookbooks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.S. "Buck" Abraham, to whom she was happily married for 52 years. She is survived by their children: sons, Sterling Abraham and Christopher Abraham, and daughter, Carrol Kimberley; her grandson, Jack Kimberley; and her granddaughter, Anna Kimberley.
Pallbearers are Henry M. Bell III, Stephen Bentley, Rand Huzenlaub, Gordie Roberts, Tim Seago, Brian Smith, Jay Ward and Mathew Watson. Honorary pallbearers are Ben Bridges, Harold Cameron, J.W. Johnson, James McCain, Joe Roberts and Harold Smotherman.
Visitation will be at the Stewart Family Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
