Ivan J Adair, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away on October 5, 2010, at the age of 90. He was born in Lone Oak, Texas November 29, 1919, to H.B. and Esther Adair. He had one sister, Hazel Adair Owen, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Arvella Baird Adair, whom he married May 6, 1994. He and his family moved to Commerce, Texas, when he was in 8th grade where his father operated a hardware store. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1938 and attended East Texas Normal School while working at A&P Grocery Store. During World War II he worked for Douglas Aircraft as technical writer and later as instructor for the Army teaching B25 and B26. He was a business man who owned a manufacturer's rep business, a hardware store, and a kitchen manufacturing company. In 1986, he retired and moved to his farm in Commerce, Texas. Ivan was a wood carver and had a group he met with weekly for this hobby. He loved to travel with his wife, Arvella and play bridge and 42 with all of his friends. He met with his high school friends from Commerce twice a year for a trip or reunion. From his high school class only three survive him: Ernie and Vera Jo Wright of Dallas and C.B. Slaughter of Austin. He was a devoted Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Rockwall, Texas. He served faithfully in many different churches in cities where he lived. He is also survived by two daughters and three step-daughters, Janice Codena and Comelia Black of San Antonio, Susan Pressley of Rockwall, Carolyn Williams of Allen, and Karen Beth Young of Coppell, twelve grandchildren, and a multitude of friends. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2010, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen with Rev. Randy Morlan and Rev. Ron Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Sherman, Texas. The family will receive friends for a visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home.
