BLAKE, Charles Horace Charles Blake passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at home, in Vancouver Washington. He died peacefully with his wife by his side. He was 84. Chuck was born in Bountiful, Utah, on June 7, 1923, and was the son of Horace and Sylvia Turner Blake. He was the dear brother to the late Ferol Platt of Sandy, Utah, and is survived by sister Mary Lu Koenig of Phoenix, Arizona. Raised in Bountiful, Utah, he was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II and flew the B-17 aircraft. Later, he worked for the Hughes Aircraft Company. He spent the later part of his career working at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
He lived most of his life in the Antelope Valley in Southern California. Chuck had a passion for living and enjoyed physical activities later in life. He loved flying and enjoyed Wind Surfing, Snow Skiing, and Bicycle Riding. He and his wife once biked over 1200 miles throughout Alaska. With his wife by his side, he traveled around the world several times including the Fall 1996, voyage of Semester at Sea. Chuck was the beloved husband of Sandy Drager Blake and the father to his four boys: Rob Blake of Mt. Vernon, Washington, Nick Blake of San Antonio, Texas, Tony Blake of Smithfield, Utah, and Daniel Blake of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He also is survived by thirteen grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and two children he mentored as his own. Chuck deeply touched each of these lives and will be missed by all. Funeral Services were conducted in Vancouver, Washington at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on February 24, 2008, and included family and friends. Chuck was flown to Southern California where he was interred at the Crystal Cathedral Memorial Gardens in Garden Grove, California on February 26, 2008. Donations "In Memory of Charles H.
