Birth: Nov. 16, 1788
Death: Feb. 6, 1850

Russian statesman and historian. He was educated at home, in 1800 he joined the cadet in the Moscow archives of the Foreign Board, whose manager was his father. He was sent to Serbia, and he had the opportunity to survey the Ukraine and the countries lying along the way that they were described in published his "Travels in Moldavia, Wallachia and Serbia" (Wiley, 1810). In 1812, he accompanied his father in Nizhny Novgorod, which was taken at the time of backup. On his return to Moscow, he attended lectures at the University, but soon after the fact, after the death of his father (1814), entered the service in Petersburg at the College of Foreign Affairs. Excellent knowledge of the language opens before him a wide field of diplomacy, but that he did not use, and went first officer on special assignments , and then the office manager to Prince H. G. Repnin appointed in 1816 the military governor of Ukraine . The five-year stay here again gave him the opportunity to indulge in your favorite archival studies, the result of which is his "History of Ukraine of its accession to the Russian state to cancel the Hetman, with a general introduction, application materials and portraits" (4 volumes, 1822 , 2nd edition, 3 volumes, Moscow , 1830 , 3rd edition, 1842 ) - work undertaken on behalf of the Prince Repnin, who even took part in the preparation of the first volume. For the last period of life Bantysh-Kamensky belong to his "Biographies of Russian Generalissimo and General Field Marshal" (4 parts, St. Petersburg., 1840 - 1841 ), the publication of which the emperor Nicholas I granted 2,000 rubles.
