| Birth: | Sep. 25, 1850 | | Death: | Mar. 19, 1919 |  From 1870 until 1874 he studied at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Academy, military-medical department, where he received his doctorate. In 1878, he joined the Imperial Navy. On 1883 he was promoted to Navy Surgeon Major, and from 1884 until 1886, he was ordered to the Charité.
At the end of October 1887, he put to sea from Genoa for Japan and arrived in Tokyo on Dec 1, 1887. In 1888 he became Chief Surgeon and head of the Imperial German Navy Hospital in Yokohama. In 1891, he returned to Germany and stayed in the Navy. He was promoted to Navy Surgeon General in 1903. He retired on Aug. 11, 1903. During the World War I, he was reactivated and became Chief Surgeon and senior consultant of a hospital.
