He immigrated to the United States in 1938 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. With degrees from the University of Berlin, the University of Chicago, and the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Borinski taught at Tougaloo College near Jackson, Mississippi, and served as head of its Sociology Department. A well-respected teacher and activist in the Civil Rights Movement, he continued teaching at Tougaloo until his death.
