George W. Bell, 85, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at Baldwyn Nursing Facility after a brief illness. He was born in Lee County on Oct. 6, 1925, to Willie Milton and Zelma McCarley Bell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the U.S.S. Raleigh. He was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in the Blair community. He was an active and devoted member of the Mississippi Square & Round Dance Association for over 50 years. He was a member of the Cedar Hill RCDC and a former member of The Tupelo Luncheon Civitan Club.
Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in the Blair community.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Gloria Bell of Guntown; two daughters, Pat Henson (William) and Georgia Ann Bell, both of Guntown; two grandchildren, John Robert Henson (Kim K.) of Guntown and Kim Henson Edwards (Mike) of Belden; one sister, Mauveline Estes of Baldwyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Brenda Diane Bell; his sister, Pauline Kitchens, and her husband, John; and his brother-in-law, Ray Estes.
