Dorothy Reifers Cater, 77, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. Mrs. Cater was born in Okolona to the late William Garrett Reifers and Kate Allen Abernathy Reifers. She received her B. S. Degree from Delta State University and began her career as an educator. She retired after 27 years as a Laboratory Technician with the Okolona Community Hospital. She was an active member of the St. Therese Catholic Church in Okolona where she participated in all church activities. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, donating time to her church work, playing cards with her buddies at Shearer Richardson Nursing Home and was devoted faithfully to her family and many friends.

A celebration of her life was held Wednesday, April 4, 2001, from St. Therese Catholic Church in Okolona with Sister Liz Brown officiating. Burial was in the East Chickasaw Memorial Gardens. Lee Memorial/Okolona Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her three children, Patricia Cater Hall and her husband Larry of Okolona, Linda Duke of Okolona and Terry Cater and his wife, Phyllis of Memphis, TN; one sister, Alice Foley of Calhoun, CO; 10 grandchildren, Tina Witcher, Tim Jenkins, Emily Stafford, Christi Whitman, Jason Cater, Donny Smith, Bryan Cater, Tony Smith, Phillip Hall, Brandon Cater; 8 great grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Dillon Smith, Brandon Stafford, T. J. Cater, Austin Whitmon, Landon Whitmon, Bradley Smith and Nicholas Smith; her special friend, Ewell Welford of Okolona; several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of over 50 years, William "Bill" Cater who died in 1997.

Pallbearers were Tim Jenkins and her nephews; Jimmy, Garry, David, Ricky and Robert Reifers, Jim Bower and Soren Bowie.

Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home.

Memorial may be made to the St. Therese Catholic Church, 116 North Fleming, St., Okolona, MS 38860
