Services for Ernest L. Addy were held Saturday, Oct 13, 1990, from Webb-Newton Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Douglas officiating.

Addy died Thursday, Oct 11 at Rush Foundation Hospital. A life-long resident of Newton County, he owned and operated several saw mills in the county before retirement and was associated with the lumber business for over seventy years. Addy, born Jan. 4th, 1907 in Chunky, was one of seven children born to John Paul Addy and Belle Bellew Addy and was the last surviving son of six boys born to this union.

Survivors include his wife Mary Helen "Nellie" Maynard Addy, Newton; a sister, Mrs. James Smith (Ellen), Berwyn, IL; a daughter, Jacqueline E. Benner, a grandson, Michael F. Benner and two great-grandchildren, all of Athens, GA; several nephews, great nephews, nieces and great neices from Newton County.

Pallbearers were James H. Addy, Joseph M. Addy, Bobby Addy, Kenny Addy, J. J. Addy, Michael F. Benner, Jeff Cleveland and A. Q. Cleveland. Honorary bearer, Darrel Monroe.
