SHELBURNE - Vera Dolores Abrami was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the youngest of eight children to Italian immigrants, Neil and Elvira Anzalone.

From an early age, she developed a strong love of family and was devoted to her parents and siblings. She loved sports and outside activities. She never tired of playing with her older sisters' and brothers' children and frequently took them on outings. She sacrificed much of her free time to the care and attention of her convalescing father once he suffered a stroke. After graduating from Girls' Commercial High School, Vera worked as an office assistant in her father's real estate business.

In 1945 she met the love of her life, returning World War II hero Philip Abrami, at a neighborhood party. They were married in 1947. The marriage flourished. They raised two sons together, Philip and Anthony, both of whom she actively supported to have successful, professional careers.

Vera was the ultimate homemaker, wife and mother, always providing unconditional love and support. In retirement, Phil and Vera traveled extensively, enjoyed their hobbies and most of all enjoyed time with the family. Vera developed very strong bonds with her daughtersin-law, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, spending every Christmas and month long summer vacations at the family beach house in Cape May, N.J. Five years ago, they relocated to Shelburne Bay Retirement Community to be closer to their two sons and family members and formed many wonderful, new friendships.

Vera is survived by her loving husband of almost 65 years, Philip Abrami, who was dedicated to her care as she suffered through a prolonged battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She is also survived by her sisters, Caroline Dell-Anno of Staten Island, N.Y., and Jean Maio of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her sons, Philip Abrami and wife, Valerie Turner, of Montreal, Que., Anthony Abrami and wife, Rosemarie, of Williston; five grandchildren, Alex Abrami and wife, Holly, Melissa and Gregory Abrami and fiancÚ, Emily Regan, Jessica Abrami and husband, Rich Stern, and Allison Abrami; and one great-grandchild, Anthony, who loved to call her "Great Nanny." She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose Bonadia and Lena Ianora; and her brothers, Bill, Tony, and Carmine Anzalone.

18th century British poet John Keats once said: "A thing of beauty is a joy forever: Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness." Vera's legacy and gift to all who knew her was her unending love and compassion for her fellow man. May God bless her beautiful soul and welcome her with loving arms. The family would like to especially acknowledge Peggy Perrigo, Vera's primary caregiver, for her wonderful, loving care.
