Ms. Crenshaw, 60, of Columbia, S.C., died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at her home in Columbia. She was born Oct. 15, 1948, in Clarke County to the late James "Fox" and Etta Mae Menasco. After her high school graduation from Quitman High School in 1966, she completed a one year accounting and business program at Jones Junior College. From 1967 to 1973, she worked for Hutto Furniture in Quitman, Southern Publishing in Meridian, and Masonite Charcoal in Pachuta. On June 18th, 1973, she began her 20 year career with Watkins Hospital in Quitman. In 1997, after successfully supporting her son through four years of college and beyond, she decided to move to Columbia to be with her sister and extended family. The relentless desire to work hard continued as she began work at Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina as an accounting analyst, and for a period of time, she also worked for the U.S. Postal Service. In 2005, her son was fortunate enough to move closer to her for her final four years. It was filled with visits, baseball games and holidays. Survivors include her sister, Mary Francis Young, of Columbia, S.C.; her son, Mark E. Beckman and his wife Heather, of Simpsonville, S.C.; grandchildren, Brady Allen Beckman, and soon to be Olivia Rose Beckman, of Simpsonville, S.C.; and many friends in Clarke County, Miss. and Columbia, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Beckman; and brother, James Benton Menasco. The family requests memorials be made to the Brady and Olivia Fund, 200 Farm Brook Way, Simpsonville, S.C. 29681.
