Death: Aug. 5, 1901

Smith Leroy Boyd was apparently a farmer all his life, although he may also have been an attorney. He spent much of his life in South Carolina, and during the Civil War he served in the 6th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry in the regimental band but was discharge because of a physical disability in less than a year. After the war, he moved to Mississippi and became active in community affairs in his adopted Mississippi and was a member of the Mississippi legislature following Reconstruction. He was also a member of the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors. He married Isabella Taliaferro Pilcher in May 1880, and they were the parents of four children, including Mary Lee Boyd, who is buried nearby.
