CARLENE VICY ALFORD
Jackson, Hinds Co., MS—Sunday, 18 August 1991
Carlene Vicy Alford, 58, of 621 West Hill Drive, died of cancer Saturday at Methodist Medical Center.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home with burial in the County Line Baptist Church Cemetery....
Mrs. Alford, a Humphreys County native, lived in Jackson 35 years. She was a shipping and receiving clerk with the Veterans Administration Medical Center. She was a member of West Jackson Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 6473.
Mrs. Alford, the widow of Glenn Warren Alford, had been fighting cancer for about two years, said her son, Benjamin Glenn Alford of Jackson. She worked at the VA for 24 years before her illness forced her into a medical retirement.
"She was a real strong willed lady as are all of her brothers and sisters. Their parents raised their kids real well. My mom was like a mother to a lot of my friends. She really cared a lot about people," he said.
"She was a hard worker. She worked hard all her life trying to take care of her family to make sure we had everything we needed," her son said.
"She was always taking me to my baseball games and practice when Dad couldn't. She was always up early when me and Dad went fishing to make sandwiches and have them ready for us so we would have our lunch on the boat," he said. "She was always there when I was sick. I'm 26 and before she got sick she was always there it's been my turn now. I was going to go up north to work and my dad died and my sister got married and then Mom got sick.
"She took care of me all my life so it was my turn to take care of her, you know, all the bills and taking care of the house," he said. "My aunts, her sisters, really helped. They took her to the doctor so I could continue working and stayed at the hospital to be sure she was getting good care.
"She was wonderful," her son said. "She was all I could ever want for a mother to be."
Other survivors include: daughter, Melonie Tomlinson of Clinton; brother, Johnny B. Primm of Forest; sisters, Annie Lois Primm and Louise Primm, both of Jackson, and Cindy Primm of Forest; and a grandson.
