James Ellis Baker, 59, died Sept. 19, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born March 31, 1951, in Memphis. He was a member of Banner Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and the Mississippi National Guard and worked for the North Mississippi Regional Center in the engineering department. He was also a farmer and cattleman. His favorite hobby was woodworking.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rex Ard officiating and the Rev. W.R. Harrelson and the Rev. Bill Riley assisting. Burial will be in Banner Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Gail Smith Baker of Banner; his son, Joseph Chad Baker and wife, Traci Hill Baker of Pittsboro; his brother, Thomas Edwin Baker and wife, Lucinda of Banner; a very special daughter and foster child, Kristie Hawkins of Water Valley; and a brother-in-law, Walter "Buddy" Jones of Red Oak, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Guy and Lila Fay Edwards Baker; and his sister, Lola Catherine Oliver Jones.
