Keith Edward Hansen, 50, died unexpectedly at his home on January 3, 2011, in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Keith was born March 26, 1960, in Monte Vista, Colorado, to Kenneth L. Hansen and Patricia A. (Schroeder) Gibson. He was baptized on April 10, 1960 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Monte Vista, Colo.
Keith was selected as a Who's Who Among America Students in 1977-1978. He was a member of the High School Chorus, Model U.N., worked as an Office Aide, and was on the Debate Team and Honor Roll. He was the Vice-President of the Student Council and was part of the yearbook staff. Keith received the Outstanding Business Award, Outstanding Government Award, Outstanding Student Council Award as he graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1978. He graduated with a BA in Aviation Science from Metropolitan State College, Denver, Colo. in 1982. He completed his 22nd year with Sprint Telecommunications and currently worked as a Business Customer Service 2 Representative.
Keith enjoyed flying, learning about different types of aircraft and anything to do with aviation, watching movies, reading and going out with his friends. Keith played piano for more than 44 years and loved music. He loved coming back to Monte Vista and eating Ron and Carol Martinez's homemade enchiladas and talking about traveling with Jennie Cooper during the birthday parties she hosted. Keith loved learning about his Hansen family history with his cousin Karen Jarocki and loved to be able to share a laugh with his cousin Carolyn Bishop J He traveled to various parts of America and always talked about his trip to Europe during high school.
Keith received numerous awards through his work at Sprint. He loved his job because of the people he worked with and his many customers. His co-workers became part of his family especially after he moved to Georgia. He could always count on support from all of them.
Surviving are his parents Kenneth Hansen (Monte Vista) and Patricia Gibson (Westcliffe); aunts Margaret Cargill (Monte Vista), Ingrid Hansen (San Angelo), Elisabeth McCary (San Diego), Shirley Newmyer (Monte Vista), Carol Schroeder (Monte Vista); uncles Carl Hansen (San Angelo) and Jim Schroeder (Monte Vista). One sister Susan (Thornton), brother-in-law Brian Jones, niece Krystie, numerous cousins and other relatives also survive. His extended family includes his many friends and co-workers throughout the United States.
Keith's "Going Home Celebration" was held Friday, January 14, 2011, at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Westcliffe, Colo. and he was laid to rest at Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Westcliffe.
