Wet Mountain Tribune, July 12, 1929: Mrs. Minnie Austin, beloved wife of Dewey Austin and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Hanssen, passed away at the hospital in Canon City at about midnight on July 4th, aged 32 years 1 month and 8 days. Mrs. Austin had contracted kidney trouble which developed into uremic poisoning and about ten days previous to her passing she was taken to the hospital. She rallied a little at times only to again grow worse and finally she was claimed by death. She was born and raised in this valley and was admired by all acquaintances who are greatly grieved at [her] demise, coming as it did in young womanhood. She was married to Mr. Austin a little over two years ago. Besides the husband and parents, Mrs. Austin is survived by four sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Jesse Roche, residing at Gardner, Mrs. Wm. F. Schulze, Mrs. Frank Kelling and Mrs. C. W. Kelling, all residing here; Herman F. Hanssen, John Hanssen, Jr., and Edward Hanssen, all residing in this valley. The funeral, very largely attended, was held at the Lutheran church here at 10 a.m. last Sunday, with the Rev. J. H. Hinck, pastor of the congregation, in charge. It was another of those beautiful and impressive funerals. The flower bearers were Alma Lange, Erna Lange, Viola Schultz and Marie Erps. Acting as pallbearers were C. A. Barton, C. S. Richmond, Henry Reuker, Harry Schulze, Fritz Erps and Elmer Gagnier. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery in the valley and a large concourse of relatives and friends followed them there to witness the last sad rites.
