Anna Maria Bauer was born in Kolb, Russia. She was the daughter of Johannes Bauer and Anna Elisabeth Henkel, immigrants from Kolb, Russia. Anna Maria married the widower Johann Georg Adler 22 Jan 1899. A few months later, the couple immigrated to the United States from Hamburg on the SS Pretoria, arriving 17 Jun 1899. They traveled to Colorado to be with other family members and eventually made their permanent home in Berthoud, Colorado. Ten children were born to this marriage: Henry, John, Carl, Reinhardt F., Maria Anna, Katharine, Margaret, Hannah, Rebecca, and John George Adler.
