Russell I. Alderson, 85 of Waverly, died early Sunday March 11, 2007 at Modern Care Nursing Home in Jacksonville. He was born November 5, 1921 in Modesto, the son of Melvin and Ola Davenport Alderson. He married Virginia Sullivan July 18, 1943 in her parents home in Waverly. She died in 2003.
He is survived by one daughter, Deanne (husband Ralph) Rich of Waverly, one granddaughter Jennifer (husband Jeremy) Moore, of Mt. Zion, two great-grandsons, Connor Rich and Tyson Russell Moore. He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia, five brothers, Richard, Robert, Rosco, Donald and Darrell Alderson; two sisters, Marjorie Grinkey and Mabeth Anderson.
He attended Chillicothe Business School in Mo, before joining the U>S> Army, where he served as a fighter pilot, flying p-47 "Thunder Bolts" during wwii. He co-owned the "Fix It Shop" in Waverly with Shorty Newberry. He was a member of Waverly American Legion #262, Lions Club, and the "Thunder Bolts" club. He was a member of Waverly Christian Church and served as Elder and Board Chairman for many years.
Services were entrusted to Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home of Waverly, Illinois.
