Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Bell Alexander, 83, of Fayetteville Road, Van Buren, Arkansas, were held Monday, January 15, 1968 at the Wood Memorial Christian Church in Van Buren with the Rev. T.M. Carroll and the Rev. Charles W. Richards officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery by Ocker Funeral Home.
Widow of the late Rev. Guy Garfield Alexander, she was born in Dubuque, Iowa, the oldest child of Frances and Charles Crain. She is the last surviving member of her family which also included two brothers and two sisters.
She had been a resident of Van Buren since 1914.
Mrs. Alexander died Saturday, Jan 13, 1968 in a local hospital. She was a member of the Alexander Memorial Christian Church which was renamed and dedicated to the memory of her late husband who was a minister of the church for a period of 46 years. She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women's club,a past president of the Crawford County Home Demonstration Clubs; a member of the Van Buren Literary Club; an employee for 20 years at the Triple-AAA Office in Van Buren; and a former secretary-treasurer of the Crawford County Farm Bureau. She retired in 1950.
Survivors include five sons, Howard, Edward, Lt. Col Marvin of the U.S. Army, Travis and Nelson; four daughters, Frances, Margaret, Mildred and Verna; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
