Rev. Guy Garfield Alexander, 85 years old, 1201 Fayetteville Road, Van Buren, Arkansas, died Saturday evening, July 9, 1966 at his home following an illness of six weeks. He was born at Greenleaf, Kansas on August 28, 1880 to the late W. H. and Clara Meadors Alexander. He was married to Laura Bell Crain in St. Louis, Missouri 58 years ago.
He was a graduate of the College of Bible at Lexington, Kentucky. He had been a resident of Crawford County since 1911 when he was pastor of the Broadway Christian church, which was torn down many years ago and the Wood Memorial Christian church built on the site. Mr Alexander was pastor of the First Christian church in Clinton, Indiana and also held pastorates in Texas. He was pastor of the Rena Christian church for 40 years and retired six years ago.
He was the last member of his immediate family. Survivors are his wife; five sons; four daughters, Margaret, Mildred, Frances and Verna; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the Wood Memorial Christian church with the Pastor, T. M. Carroll officiating, assisted by Charles W. Richards, pastor of Goddard Memorial Methodist church of Fort Smith. Burial was in Fairview cemetery and was under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
