Maggie Bryan Adams was born in the Spring Hill Community of Pickens County, Alabama, Mississippi, near or the city of Carrollton. She was the daughter of Joseph Bryan and Safronia Josephine Acker also of Pickens County, Alabama. Her paternal grandparents were William S. Bryan and Sarah Ellis. Her maternal grandparents were Jackson B Acker and Margaret Lucinda Crime also of Pickens County, Alabama. She was the sister of Larado, Martha "Mattie, and Richard Bryan.
When Maggie was very young her parents moved to Gonzales, Texas to join her father's mother and brother in business. Maggie's sister Lorado and her brother Richard were born in there in the 1880s, but unfortunately her father died in Gonzalez in early 1888. Maggie's mother Josephine went back to Spring Hill, Alabama with her children in the same year to give birth to Maggie's youngest sister Mattie. Maggie's mother raised her and the other children with the help of family, however in 1895 her mother suddenly died leaving eighteen year old Maggie and her younger sisters and brother orphaned. Maggie and her sisters were taken in by her aunt Annie Acker Gates who moved them to her home in Noxubee, Mississippi. Her brother Richard was taken in by Maggie's uncle Christopher Columbus (C.C.) Acker.
Partly due to these family tragedies and the necessity to earn her way, Maggie became a rather serious minded person interested in a career to support herself. In her early twenties she was a switchboard operator then later attended nursing school at Hillman Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. In her late twenties she met Lewis Adams who was from her family's home county of Pickens, Alabama. Lewis and Maggie were married in 1906 in Mississippi, then she and Lewis joined his brothers who had moved to Richmond, Texas to start a joint business. Her sisters soon joined her in Texas.
Lewis and Maggie bought a house in Richmond down the street from his brother's house and began to raise a family. Maggie was a stern, but fair mother of Brian Lewis Adams, Vivian Adams (Priesmuth), and Lloyd Acker Adams.
Lewis and Maggie continued to live on in Richmond until the late 1940s when Lewis became too ill for Maggie to care for him. Daughter Vivian moved Lewis and Maggie to Houston to live in a little house behind her home in the Garden Oaks subdivision. Lewis died in 1952 and Maggie lived on in Houston until 1961. Maggie is buried in the Adams family plot with her husband Lewis and her children Bryan, Vivian, and Lloyd and her sisters Lorado and Mattie (Martha) Bryan.
