Nancy Elizabeth Seymour was born in South Carolina. She was born a Sumpter, but she was given for adoption to the Seymour family as a child. Her family moved to Pickens County, Alabama when she was a young girl.
After the Civil War Nancy met and married Sanford M. Adams of the Spring Hill Community of Pickens County, Alabama. They lived near Sanford's fathers place and had four children - James Joshua (Josh), Jenks Seymour, Lewis Stone, Margaret, and Mary Jane. Mary Jane died when very young. In 1893 after the death of her husband's father and the untimely death of her nineteen year old daughter Margaret, Nancy and Sanford and their sons and their orphaned nephew Sanford Butler moved to Richmond, Texas. When her husband Sanford passed away in 1896, Nancy kept the household in place until she passed in 1906. Nancy was a fine woman and kept the family together.
