J.D. Cantrell, age 62, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at his residence. Visitation will be from Noon-9:00 P.M. Monday at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the Roller Chapel with Reverend Dr. Tommy Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow in Arkana Cemetery with Steve Day, Bill Whitehouse, Josh Helms, Mike Cantrell, Vince Cantrell and Kevin Gauer as pallbearers. Bobby Payne will be an honorary pallbearer. J.D. was born May 5, 1947, at Arkana, Arkansas, to Joseph D. and Ora M. Anderson Cantrell. On December 16, 1978, he married Lori D. Day in Mountain Home. He received his EMT certification with the first EMT class of what was then Baxter General Hospital and served on the first ambulance service of the hospital. He worked at Roller Funeral Home and Baxter Memorial Gardens and retired from the EZ Loader Company. He was a member of the Mountain Home Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and helped clear the land for the church property. He coached softball and was a sanctioned softball umpire with the A.S.A, enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports, and enjoyed fishing and hunting, bingo, bowling and picking up walnuts. Survivors are: his wife: Lori D. Cantrell: of the home; one son: Jody (Tonia) Cantrell: Norfork; three daughters: Kathy Hellums: Mountain Home; Patty Cantrell: Cotter; and Jennifer (Josh) Helms: Mountain Home; one brother: Sid Cantrell: Mountain Home; eight grandchildren: Justin, Brittney, Anna, Jacob, Addie, Austin, Isaac and Michael; a great-granddaughter: Brooklynn; a sister-in-law: Gail Cantrell: Gainesville, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Drew Cantrell and Dale Stewart; and a sister: Tracy Coy Thornley. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks or Mountain Home Baptist Church "Miracle on the Mountain".
