Julia Mae Heimann was born on February 24, 1924, in Fredericksburg, Texas, to Walter and Lillie Klein Heimann. Her brother, George Heimann, and two sisters, Ellen and Alice Heimann, preceded her in death. They all grew up on the banks of Bear Creek in southern Gillespie County.

During World War II, Julia Mae worked in a sewing factory sewing uniforms for the military.

On November 14, 1942, she married Werner Henry Feller. They were married for seventy years and are parents of Jean Feller, Austin; and Dennis Feller, Pflugerville; and of Susan Feller Heiligenthal who preceded them in death. Another son, Ronald Keith Feller, died in infancy. Julia Mae and Werner moved to the Meusebach Creek Community in 1952 where they resided for the remainder of their lives engaged in farming and ranching.

As her children grew older, Julia Mae went to work for Market Produce, the local turkey processing plant, where she worked as a supervisor for many years before retiring.

She had many interests and served the community in numerous ways. Julia Mae and Werner loved going to dances and served in various capacities at the Turn Verein and Hermann Sons. In addition, she was a volunteer in the local Band Boosters organization.

Julia Mae was a wonderful cook and baker as evidenced by all the ribbons she won at the Gillespie County Fair over the years. Her homemade bread recipe was even published in a farm magazine complete with pictures of the family displaying her ribbons. She was also an expert seamstress who learned to sew without a pattern. She sewed not only school clothes but many elaborate dance costumes for her daughters. Julia Mae was an avid gardener and always had a large and beautiful garden, orchard, and yard.

She bowled in various leagues for many years, and in her later years greatly enjoyed quilting with her friends at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in their quilting circle. She was also a long-time active member of the local Hermann Sons Lodge.
