Daughter of Samuel Clapp and Hannah Gill Clapp.

Deborah married Joseph Bates:

From the Original Vital Records of Scituate, Vol. 6, pg. 24:

--"Joseph Bats and deborah Clap were married Septm - 10th - 1713."

Their known children, confirmed by Hingham Vital Records:

--Joseph, b. May 6th, 1714; d. November 3rd, 1714
--Deborah, b. April 2nd, 1716
--Samuel, b. March 25th, 1719
--Jonathan, b. March 27th, 1721
--Mary, b. April 10th, 1723

A death record has not been found, but she is mentioned in the Will of her husband, which was dated April 10th, 1747/48. (Suffolk County, MA, Probate Case #9497, Joseph Bates, Hingham). This April 10th date is applied as her death date, but is actually "after" April 10th, 1748. She is assumed to have died in Hingham where she had lived her entire adult life.

She has never been associated with Abingdon, Virginia, so she could not have been buried there. Her son Joseph, who died as an infant, had his birth information applied to a Joseph Bates who was of Abingdon, VA (FAG Memorial #10533278) & who apparently married a Mary King. It was then added that Deborah had died & was buried in Virginia as well. Her actual burial information is not known, which calls into question the creation of this memorial to begin with, but it was created & was perpetuating incorrect information. However, she & her husband lived in Hingham all their adult lives, so it's plausible that they were buried in the Hingham Cemetery.
