Richard Adams' Family was among the early settlers of Virginia. He was the son of Richard Adams and the grandson of Eben Adams. He served as a member of the House of Burgesses between 1752 and 1775 for the counties of New Kent and Henrico. Between 1774 and 1775 He served on the Henrico County Commissioners Committee. He represented Henrico county at the 1775 Virginia Convention that declared independence from England. He served as a member of the House of Delegates Between 1776 and 1778. He served as a member of the Virginia Senate between 1779 and 1782. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Leroy and Mary Anne (Bernard) Griffin on 10 Apr. 1775. They are the grandparents of Mary Griffin Adams, who married Dr. John Minge, Jr. and whose daughter Sally Minge married General George E. Pickett.
