NORFOLK - Willis Edward Beachem Jr., LT. COL USAF (Ret.), 95, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011.

Willis faithfully served his country for 25 years in the U.S. Air Force until his retirement in July of 1965.

Willis returned as a civilian to work at the Pentagon as a PEM for the USAF in support of the Vietnamese Air Force. After retiring from the Pentagon, he missed the military life and joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was promoted to Division Captain and had Flotillas in Newport News, Williamsburg, Gloucester, Topping, Hampton and Poquoson. He retired in 2006 from the Coast Guard Auxiliary after serving 28 years. Willis was a world traveler and enjoyed spending time with his early morning friends at Pops. He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Moses Lake, Washington.

Willis was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Nellie Lee Terry Beachem.

He is survived by two daughters, Janaan Withers Muntean and her husband, Bill of Yorktown, Camarva Lee Faszczewski and her husband, Jay of Norfolk; and two brothers, Eugene Beacham of Portsmouth and Vernon Beacham of Virginia Beach.

He is also survived by a sister, Catherine Hicks of Florida; two grandchildren, William George Muntean III and his wife, Carrie, David Edward Muntean and his wife, Janine; and four great-grandchildren, Taryn, Christopher, Megan and Liam.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown with the Rev. Carleton Bakkum officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 13, in Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, and at a reception following services at his daughters home in Yorktown.
