Philip Stockton Boykin Sr., 82, 109 Moss Ave., Seaford, Va., passed away at home Aug. 13, 2004.

Born July 29, 1922, at Pine Grove Plantation in Boykin, S.C., he was preceded in death by his parents, the late Colonel and Mrs. L.W. Boykin.

Mr. Boykin was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving in the Battle of the Bulge at Elsenborn. He was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Metal.

He was a 1948 graduate of Clemson College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, afterwards retiring as a designer from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry-dock Company.

Mr. Boykin was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. He was a former member of the Clemson Club, Propeller Club, Engineers' Club, Power Squadron and the Yorktown Kiwanis.

Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.

Mr. Boykin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elisabeth; five children, Philip "Flip" S. Boykin Jr. and his wife, Virginia, of Edisto Island, S.C., Mimsi Kliment, wife of Josef F. of Chambersburg, Pa., Missi Rhodes, wife of James E. III of Yorktown, Va., Ted Boykin, husband of Louise S. of Seaford, Va., and Betsy Zellers, wife of Steven D. of Yorktown, Va.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration in honor of his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown, Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "building fund" at Grace Episcopal Church, 111 Church St., Yorktown, VA 23690, or to a favorite charity.
