Margaret E. Burns, 84, died Tuesday, October 22, 2002. She was born in Albany, N.Y., on January 14, 1918, and graduated from Albany High School in 1935.
She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1941 to work for the Navy Department. In December 1956, she was transferred to the Naval Mine Engineering Facility in Yorktown and retired from the Naval Weapons Station in 1973.
She was a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown, and was a member of the choir, Naomi Dozier Circle, and a volunteer in the Book Shop for many years. She was also a volunteer at the James River Nursing Home Gift Shop and a member of A.P.V.A. (The Association for The Preservation of Virginia Antiquities.)
Survivors include her nephew, Stephen G. Petlitz and his wife, Mary, and brother-in-law, Marshall H. Petlitz all of Mount Airy, N.C., also cousins in New York and Connecticut.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 25, at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Carleton Bakkum officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the loving care given by Mennowood Retirement Home staff and St. Francis Hospice nurses.
