He was educated in the public schools of Richmond. After graduation, he began his teaching career in Clarksville, VA, and later transferred to Richmond Public Schools, where he remained until his retirement.
He remained active in the Richmond area music community doing what he loved.
Among his survivors are Joyce Turner and cousins, Barbara Ridley, LaVerne Wright Miner, Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., Joyce Baden, Tommyzee H. Suggs and Pamela Wood. Remains rest at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave.
Funeral services 11am Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1408 W. Leigh St., with Dr. Alonza L. Lawrence officiating. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A musical memorial was held Friday, February 15, 2008, from 7pm to 8pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Judah and Leigh Sts. The public was invited. An invitation was extended to persons who wanted to participate in the memorial choir on Saturday, February 16, 2008. They were asked to assemble (in black) at 10:30am in the lower level of Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church. No viewing.
