NORFOLK - Martha Ash Alston, known as Martha Ash, formerly of the 1400 block of Shipp St., passed away Jan. 8, 2008, in Sentara Nursing Center. Born in Princess Anne County, Virginia, she retired after 50 years as a caregiver for the Frank Thomas family. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, and its usher board. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are two granddaughters, Brenda Ash Livermon of Norfolk and Linda Ash Scales of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Wesley Alston; son, Willie W. Ash; sister, Goldie Mason; and brother, William Johnson.

A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Morning Star Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Burial will be in Betty Jones Memorial Park. The remains will be ready for viewing today from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The family will assemble at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Homes, Norfolk Chapel, at 12:30 p.m. Friday for the procession.
